First Year Teacher Reflection
This past year I officially completed my first year teaching. I taught first grade in a small charter school. I feel that overall my year was a success, however I can clearly mark some areas of improvement. I learned that it is not good to procrastinate on ANYTHING while teaching. Because if you have 10 things today tomorrow you will have 20 more. It is a good idea to grade every single day instead of once a week. Because if you grade once a week you will have a pile of papers the size of the Everest Mountain. I learned that you must assign a spot for every little thing to avoid clutter. I learned that creating a classroom job chart is a must. I also learned that no matter what kinda of day you are having, your kids always need to learn and you must always teach. I learned that there are some disturbed children out there and the only way to get to them is threw talk and reasoning, not screaming and getting flustered. I learned that for every misbehaved child there is a sad family home life. Even from the ones that seem to have it all. Those are the ones that need the most. Because many times those parents are too busy working to buy them things, when in reality all the children need is their time and love.

Hi Judith,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this reflection. I have also finished my first grade teaching and it has been a ride. I totally agree with you on the not procrastinating and organization tips. I will try o keep your words about misbehaved kids in mind when I encounter one, and remember to treat them kindly.
I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming assignment as a second grade dual language teacher!
